It was my girlfriend’s birthday last weekend and we headed out for a brunch of the delectable Eggs Al Benny at The Breakfast Club in Islington with friends. Replete with yolks, avocado, chorizo etc, we decided to potter along the canal path towards Dalston.
Little did we know as we set off what carnage was being unleashed on St Regent’s Canal: the second Canalival – an almighty, unlicensed, floating party made up of hundreds of dinghies, inflatables and barges. All to commemorate the flotilla from the Queen’s Jubilee last year. Apparently.
It was quite, quite insane. That’s London for you.
I’d only taken my V1 with me – probably a good thing as we did later inherit an ailing inflatable kayak which we fixed with duct tape before spending about 45 minutes on the canal ourselves – all four of us, in a two-person vessel. Quite a bit of stuff got wet in our low-rider so it’s probably a good thing my DSLR wasn’t onboard!
We donated the kayak on again after we’d finished, helping a couple of lads do further (potentially fruitless) repairs before sending them off in it, possibly to a watery grave….
These shots are basically straight out of camera, no cropping, contrast work etc, just a little sharpening.Follow @RobJBC
